It does say on it opening page that although most of its members are single and looking for love, one doesn’t have to be looking for a romantic relationship to join them. This is the place where you can also make friends and they have discussion forums where that fact does come clear that there really are people who only stop by this site in order to find new friends – even though it is only one in ten users who come on this site, as they very freely admit themselves.
This site also takes pride in being the dating site for young thinking professionals and since they have more than 130 000 members in UK and Ireland, it’s an encouraging fact that there are so many intelligent thinking people out there just waiting to be found. This site does take pride in having members in interesting, high powered, creative jobs, as well as universitry graduates – even though they do make a clear point about not being snobby and elitist about any of their members.
The Love and Friends Search
The search on this site is very particular and detailed – but only for paid members. While all the members are able to use the basic search, the full membership gives you a whole array of different options to look for a date – be it a perfect match, a keyword or some particular details that you’re keen to find. Even a basic search is good though as it gives you loads of options to choose from – you can search either all members, paid members, free members, ID checked members (extra points for security!), members with friends and contacts etc etc.
If you are a paid user you will also get a step ahead of the free users and get to view and contact all the new members ahead of free members.
Membership and Profiles
A good thing about loveandfriends.com is that it is really clear and particular about what it offers. Even before you sign up, you get a very clear idea about who is this site for, how much does it cost and what you get for that money – or indeed, what you get for no money, if you decide to go for the free membership. Even free members can send short messages (3 in every 24 hour period), so some means of communication is always free for members!
While not the best designed website available, this truly gets brownie points for clarity. Everything is explained really well, organised, easy to find, which makes this site very user-friendly. However, DO take time for creating your profile, it can take quite a bit of time, but it is quite amusing to do as well as to read. In addition to all the usual facts and figures that most dating sites ask, this one also has personality tests available. There’s many boxes to tick and quite a few places where you can write things with your own words. It will take time to create a profile but it is worth the trouble.
Extras & Handy Features
One of the extras – and a very handy one – is a conversations screen (for paid members only). If you email with dozens of people, it’s hard to keep track of everything that you have ever written and said in the emails. However, with the conversation screen you’re able to review your entire previous conversation while you compose your message or look at someone’s profile.
There’s also an audio profile option available as well as something called Entrust phone communication, which enables you to take and receive calls from your own home phone but without others being able to see your home number. Taking calles costs 35p a minute, but ae free to receive.
Free vs Paid site
Free users are able to send a limited number of short messages, do a simple search based on basic criteria – such as location and age for example and upload one photo on their profile. Paid users can send long emails, find out whether their messages have been read, send e-cards and use the conversation screen. You will also get a detailed search option, as well as get to fill in the psychometric/lifestyle questionnaire to see how compatible you are with other users. You will also receive feedback to see how you compare to what other people are looking for.
